The Art of Mehndi
Mehndi art is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration. With origins in India, Egypt & Morocco, the art of Mehndi creates designs using henna for good fortune, love and prosperity.
The leaf of the Henna plant is ground into a powder and made into a paste that's painted on the skin in ornate & intricate designs. The paste stains the skin and in less than 24 hours you have a beautiful creation which can last several weeks.
Since
henna only stains the top layer of skin, the duration of the stain is determined by body temperature, skin type, body chemistry, lifestyle, where the henna is applied and how well it is taken care of. Mehndi art is temporary and fades as the skin naturally exfoliates.
Usually the tougher the skin, the longer the stain will last. This makes the palms of the hands and soles of the feet the best place to apply henna.

Hazel's Mehndi Art
Hazel ONLY uses natural, green henna which stains the skin a rich auburn color.
Always avoid black henna as it contains the toxic chemical PPD. Hazel NEVER uses black henna. Stay safe - go green!

Mehndi art is fun for all ages and it's pain-free. No needles are used. Henna is applied on the skin similar to cake decorating. Sometimes it actually tickles! Henna is even safe for pregnant bellies.

The designs Hazel uses are based on traditional Indian, Egyptian and Moroccan culture. A large array of wildlife, Celtic and modern designs are also available including designs Hazel creates herself. Since Hazel's Mehndi art is applied completely free-hand she can most likely recreate your favorite design. Have a photo or sketch handy.

Hazel Dunlin's Bio
Hazel is the founder and president of Avalon Moon, Inc., author of Traversing Veil & Shadow: A Literary Composition, and a founding member of a local coven established in 2003.
A passion for her natural artistic and psychic abilities, the occult, and a self-education in the archaeology and anthropology of ancient civilizations has led to a life steeped in the esoteric. As a psychic Hazel is able to 'see' ancestors and read the past lives of others. As an artist she works with acrylic on canvas, the art of Mehndi (henna), and other mediums to create unusual (and sometimes wearable) works of art, some of which are available at Avalon Moon.

Henna kits are also available at Avalon Moon for those who would like to try Henna painting for themselves.
The only Henna used & sold at Avalon Moon is green Henna, not black. Black henna contains the chemical PPD. We do not use black henna.
